A commercial lawyer by trade, Geary left a job at a law firm in Sydney to work for the Salvation Army. Since then he has created a new model of legal practice that fills a growing gap in the stretched legal system.
The free legal service he established evolved into Salvos Legal, which has advised and assisted in over 13,500 cases for free for people in need, without any State or Federal Government funding. He was made 2010 Anzac of the Year for his service to the legal profession and the community and was also a NSW Finalist in the 2012 Australia Day Awards.
Without the need for government or Salvation Army funding, Geary has managed to create a self-sufficient law firm that helps some of the most needy people in the community.
