Elizabeth Broderick
Former Sex Discrimination Commissioner, Australian Human Rights Commission
During her eight year term as Sex Discrimination Commissioner, Broderick was committed to improving gender equality. She made powerful stands against domestic violence and the gender pay gap, among many other issues. In 2011 she led the Commission’s review into the treatment of women in the Australian Defence Force.
A key advocate for Australia’s national paid parental leave scheme and domestic violence reform, she also championed the changes to the ASX Corporate Governance Principles to increase the number of women at decision making level.
“Her contribution to bringing the issue to the forefront of Australian debate, to including men in the conversation and encouraging male leaders to get involved and recognising the power of the stories of women themselves showed tremendous clarity of thinking and courage to speak to new audiences.”
